Trinidad Black Cake

Black Cake is a must have during the Christmas season. It is a traditional West Indian cake that is known for its alcohol content and making us, Trinis feel even more jolly around this time. Many people start to prepare this dessert months in advanced by soaking the dried fruits in the alcohol.




Adaptations for this recipe include: 

This recipe calls for cherry brandy since my family does not partake much in alcohol. 
However for those that partake in alcohol, rum could be utilized and for those that cannot use alcohol whether it be religious reasons or just personal preferences, grape juice could be substituted.
